What to do right now

Burst or broken pipe
Shut the main water supply valve immediately. It is usually near the water meter, under a sink, or where the supply line enters the house. Then call a plumber. A burst pipe can dump hundreds of gallons per hour.
No hot water
Most water heater failures are not emergencies unless the tank is leaking or you smell gas. If the tank is dripping or pooling water, shut off the cold supply valve on top of the tank and call same day.
Sewage backup
